I can't tell if this seems like a lot or not very much
This morning we head to Duluth for our final prep day before starting our journey. The past couple weeks have been overwhelming with packing, finishing work, and double checking logistics. It doesn't feel real that tomorrow is the start of the journey I've been dreaming of and planning for so long. There have been a few setbacks: I dropped a canoe on my right big toe,
then a week later crushed the left one under an exercise bike. That
canceled my plans for a last training hike.
As pre trip inspiration, I've been reading Colin Fletcher's account of his journey through the length of the grand canyon, The Man Who Walked Through Time. In it he writes,
"Of course, you always mean to start a long walking trip in good physical condition. Your plans wisely include a series of lengthening workouts with full pack. But the pressure of last-minute preparation always seems to crowd them out, and you arrive at the starting point not only mentally exhausted but equipped with flaccid muscles and slipper-soft feet."
Mentally exhausted for sure, though maybe not doing so bad otherwise. The toes are just about back to 100% and I think I'm as ready as I'll ever be. I took this last week off from training, and I feel antsy to get moving again! SHT here we come!
