Day 43

Day 43
Location: Presque Isle Campground
Distance: 18 miles
Weather: Partly sunny & cool enough for hiking
Mood: Mixed emotions nearing the journey's end

Our second to last day's hike of our journey was through the Ottawa National Forest. It was more like the SHT type of terrain with some challenging elevation and more rocky and rooty and muddy areas.  There were some sections where it was hard to tell if there was a trail at all between the tree blazes.  We primarily followed the Black River to Lake Superior and entered the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park near the end.  There were so many waterfalls all along the way and we stopped to take in the splendor of several of them.
As we took our snack & lunch breaks we reminisced about our 43 days so far and we talked about what we wanted to eat once we got back to civilization. We both agreed on steak as our number one choice.
The forecast for tonight and early tomorrow is rain.  We have been fortunate to have dry weather for the last couple of weeks but our luck may run out on our last day of hiking and we might have wet feet for the long drive home.😒
