Day 32
Location: Erick Lake Campsite
Distance: 12 miles
Weather: warm and sunny
Mood: Octobery(?)
We have been hiking for over a month now and the month has changed to October as we achieved 400 hiking miles on the trail!
The Fall colors are getting more noticeable in this area and acorns are dropping constantly Iike little bombs out of the sky; on our tents last night & during today's hike. There are so many on the trail that on some of the inclines it feels like trying to walk on marbles.
We passed a pond called The Pickle Pond. It was pickle shaped. You can't tell from this picture but it really was a pickle shape.
On the trail today we came across our favorite trail plant, the Wintergreen plant & some had berries on them. If you break a leaf, it has a strong wintergreen smell and the edible red berries have a slight wintergreen flavor with the consistency of an apple.
As you read in yesterday's post, I turned 60 on the trail. This is the second time I celebrated my birthday on a trail with my awesome son, Anthony, who without, I never would even fathom taking on these hiking adventures.
