Day 9

Day 9
Location: South Cross River
Distance: 16 miles
Weather: Perfect for hiking then downpour at night
Mood: Pleasant then fear of a washout

The morning weather was great for hiking, nice and cool around 50 and not very humid.  We hiked into Tofte to resupply at The General Store.  Since we went through the fig newtons so fast last week, we bought a large pack for each of us, along with more poptarts and Ramen, Andouilli smoked sausage, & many other items.
Then we had second breakfast, coffee and dessert at the Coho Cafe before getting more fuel at the outfitter store.

Once at our campsite, we rushed to make a fiire & roast the sausages & get camp ready before the imminent storm.   It came down so hard and fast that it flooded the camp and we both had an inch or more of water under our tents.  Who knew you could have water beds in the wilderness!  I placed my toothbrush on the tent floor and it floated like a little ship in a storm.  When it capsised, i remembered i needed to put it in my mouth later, so i blew it off and put it back in my plastic baggie.  I should have taken a picture of my little ship, but unfortunately I didn't.  Fortunately, the waterproofing on the tent bottoms held up.
This was also a banner day, in that we had reached over 100 miles of hiking the SHT and over 110 for the trip.
