Day 8

Day 8
Location: West Leveaux Pond
Distance: 16 miles
Weather: sunny and mid 50s!
Mood: Great first day after our rest day

This squirrel got hungry after chasing us away from it's tree

Today we ramped up miles after our nearo (near zero) day in the trail. We climbed three peaks with amazing views over the lake, Mystery Mountain, Moose Mountain, and Leveaux Mountain. To the south we could see the hills and peaks well be meeting in the days to come, and on such a clear day we could see all the way across the lake to the Apostle Islands of Wisconsin, and I'm pretty sure we could see the Porcupine Mountains in Michigan, our ultimate destination on this trip. Someone can double check me if that's really possible but it seemed like the direction was right. Regardless, it was amazing to see our whole route around Lake Superior laid out in front of us. I could hardly process it and made sure to look again at the next overlook point.

The hiking felt good today and went fast. Dad is moving quick up the inclines now too! We met a Nobo thru hiker who had a great story about being in the middle of the Ultramarathon happening on the trail and meeting the runners. At camp, a section hiker with a very cute dog named Lolly made a fire for us and told us about his other hiking adventures.

Tomorrow into town to resupply, and a big milestone. 100 miles on the trail. Also supposedly warming temps and possibly some more rain on the horizon.
