Day 29

Day 29
Location: Leo Creek campsite
Distance: 11 miles
Weather: Cold morning then warm
Mood: Happy the road walk is over

It was very cold last night.  It was about 35 degrees when we woke up this morning.  It was a welcomed change from all the heat but colder than expected.
Early morning steam coming off Saint Croix river
Frost on the ground in the morning

We were back in the woods in the morning and then much of our hike was through open fields that a day hiker told us was a bird sanctuary with many grouse.
One lone tree during several miles of hiking through open fields
A young grouse walking with us on the trail for several minutes.
One of several boggs located throughout the open fields
We passed horseback riders in the fields

We came across the Gibson cabin, built in the late 1800s, located right off the trail, which was used for hunting, fishing, & other event gatherings back in the day.  It is now owned by the National Parks Services and you can walk through the windowless empty room house.

Informational post on the Gibson cabin door

We got to camp by early afternoon and relaxed the rest of the day.
